Rehearsal is not always necessary but if you have one it can certainly help alleviate any confusion or awkwardness during the ceremony. That said, any confusion or awkwardness is often funny and quickly forgotten by cocktail hour. Never stress during the ceremony, we’ll all get through it. As your officiant I will lead us through it all and keep it light hearted and keep your guests engaged.
If you would like to have a rehearsal I would be happy to come lead it or work with your day-of-coordinator to do so. Rehearsal can be a fun way to kick off your wedding weekend and get a team feeling with everyone in your inner circle. Everyone’s excited about the wedding weekend so it can be a bit like herding cats. It may be the first time in a while some people have seen each other in person so it may take a bit of wrangling and focusing of attention but it certainly can be fun. If you would prefer not to hire me for this extra service I can provide you notes on running a rehearsal for one of your friends or family members to run for you.
By the time of rehearsal we will have sorted out all the specifics of your ceremony. This will include where your party will stand, the order of the processional and all the moving parts of the ceremony. With that information I’ll be able to run your party through the whole process which will take about 40 minutes.
I start the process by gathering everyone around and doing a talk through. This is where I explain to everyone the order of events for the rehearsal and make sure everyone knows what is going on. From there I will have us all get into position of where we will be during the ceremony. This allows everyone to know their place for the big day. After this we will line up in the back and go through a practice processional. Once in place we will go through any motions of the ceremony and then exit with a practice recessional. After we’re done all that we will run through it all a second time to make everyones well versed. From there you’ll all be ready to go about your rehearsal dinner and I will see on your wedding day.
